Tabular model processing issues

Dear Experts,

We are facing model processing issue in Tabular Model. We keep getting the error

The operation has been cancelled because there is not enough memory available for the application. If using a 32-bit version of the product, consider upgrading to the 64-bit version or increasing the amount of memory available on the machine.

Our servers are around 140+GB RAM and 16+ Cores.

Here are some more details of reference on observing the Profiler and memory usage

  1. While processing tabular entities, during the data fetch from source SQL Server, the memory gradually increases, but not to any alarming level. It is understandable that the memory is used to keep the data values for next steps around analyzing/encoding/compressing
  2. On a specific entity, while processing the Hierarchies (doesn’t matter whether it is Explicit or Attribute), the memory usage climbs up to greater level and errors out
  3. Observing the entity, the Distinct value set on a specific text attribute is higher and the PK on the source table is a Integer value, which ranges to 408 million records
  4. Splitting the model into multiple scale-outs without any partitioning succeeds though, but the goal/intention is to keep a single model with no change to features that are already available
  5. VertipaqPagingPolicy is set to 1
  6. It is not 32 bit installation

Questions

  1. Do we have any specific details on what Tabular does on Hierarchy Processing post getting the data from source?
  2. We have partitions is the entities. The understanding is that the Hierarchy is recalculated across partitions as we add new partitions or add data to new/existing partition. How does it impact the performance
  3. Guidelines on hierarchies in Tabular Model + Accepted level of Distinct Values in an attribute
  4. General Performance guidelines on Tabular Processing issue
  5. Is split-up the only solution?
