I am unable to get an mdx query to run using an excel function. I have read several postings indicating that even though the assemblies folder in SSMS may have ExcelMDX listed it really isn't available unless you actually install Excel on the same machine as the SSAS install. Since I am doing everything on my laptop this should not be an issue.
