SSAS

Very quick thing I'd like advice on. I'm building my first SSAS solution and am currently reading just about everything I can find online from BOL to peoples powerpoint presentations to help me on my way.

Everything I find is great, but is normally built on the pre-defined AdventureWorks tables. I can't use this for what I want as I'm trying to put together an example system quite quickly which means i'm handcrafting the tables. The issue I have is around what should go in the Fact table.

I have the current (very simplified) diagram below:

When I create the Fact table for it do I need a key for every table in the Fact table I want to connect it to or do I just need one to the referral and everything else can use that key?

In this case Ref is the lowest level but each one can have multiple statuses and types and link to one demographic which can have many med and fam.

Rather then the current diagram, should I change it to Ref going to all and with one key or one key for each table? OR should the Ref table be the fact table?

Thanks and sorry for the really newbie question but as it's a for an example system I have no support at this time.

Dave
