A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond

Using the same Excel workbook with an existing data connection where the actual username and password is stored (so not integrated security), I get the following results:

  • I can query the SSAS database/cube using Excel pivot table services from location A
  • I cannot query the SSAS database/cube using Excel pivot table services from location B

So could it be that the local firewall rules in location B is prohibiting either outbound or inbound traffic over say port 1682 (presuming 1682 is what SSAS was specifically set to in the relevant configuration file)?

To put it another way, it is irrelevant if all the ports on the SSAS server are wide open and there really is no security tied to the cube **IF** the firewall between the desktop and the SSAS server is blocking the traffic, which indeed is not unheard of?

Any comments welcome. Thanks.
